BREAKING NEWS ... well, literally, there is SO much breaking news in the last couple of days (major breaking news) that the Three Wise Girls have decided to hold off on airing this particular show. We want to take some time to assess all the news surrounding the recent developments in the killing of bin Laden and the responses of our future candidate choices up for discussion. We'll go live again towards the end of May. So stay tuned! This one is going to be one of those "can't miss" shows!"*******************************************************

In just the last few days, Haley Barbour has backed out of the race--not enough fire in his belly, he said ... nope, we won't go there. And Rand Paul has jumped into the ring. He's registered as a Republican but the Tea Party folks are claiming him as a star. And just today, Donald Trump is "claiming victory" by "forcing" President Obama to release his birth certificate. Who knows what'll happen between now and next week?

Gosh ... the Three Wise Girls have sooo much to talk about!

So ... who do YOU think should run on the Republican presidential ticket for 2012? The Three Wise Girls--Debbie and Linda--have the answer ... and that answer includes The Donald, aka Donald John Trump--maybe as Prez, or maybe as Chief Trash Collector. We really do want your ideas. This is the United States of America, after all, and we are a democratic society. You, and we, choose who lives in that known-'round-the-world White House! There's a lot of talk as to who's going to make a run for it on the side of the Democrats. Not as much with the Republicans, so let's help 'em along with our thoughts.

Might as well tell us what you think. We're definitely going to tell you what we think. We know as much, at least, as the average Jane Doe on the streets. We read. We pay attention to the news. We do the research. We pay our taxes. We watch Jerry Springer, Oprah, and The Daily Show.

Spring is in the air … and the Three Wise Girls are on the airwaves again. Let the clouds part, the sun shine, the butterflies flutter on the flowers, and the birds sing!

This Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 3:00 pm EST., Debbie Barth and Linda Alexander will be charting new territory as they change the format of their Three Wise Girls Show. What’s changing? Well, for one ….. the girls are putting the show in “speed mode” and changing from an hour show to a thirty-minute show. Hey … our time is valuable you know! So much to do … and so little time to do it in. Admittedly, for two ladies with so much to talk about, this may be somewhat of a challenge.

So join us for a few surprises and be prepared to talk about just about everything, from how to make new friends and astonish people to something you didn’t know about Liz Taylor and Robert Taylor. We may even talk a bit about the sad and tragic nuclear meltdown recently … no, not in Japan …. In L.A. …. I’m talking Charlie Sheen of course. Everyone else is taking about him, so why shouldn’t we? The Life And The Mysterious Death of Sam Cooke

“It’s been a hard time living, but I’m afraid to die” … Sam Cooke

The Legendary Sam Cooke died December 11, 1964, but his legacy and his music …. and his very presence … is as much alive today, some 47 years later, as it was so very long ago. Also still very much alive, are the unanswered questions surrounding the untimely and mysterious death of this beloved singer and composer.

Those who were close to Sam, as well as those who grew up with his music, will claim that he was the inventor of soul music, and … that would certainly be hard to dispute. He was one the first black entertainers to found both a record label and a publishing company. He was an outgoing, charming and handsome man with a voice as smooth as spun silk. He grew up in the church, and had already made a name for himself with a gospel group, the Soul Stirrers, before transitioning to soul, blues and pop music. His gospel music is still played to this day. It is hard to hear “You Send Me”, and “For Sentimental Reasons”, without “going to a special moment in time.” It is hard to listen to the hauntingly beautiful “A Change is Gonna Come” and not feel the anguish of the times, but …. at the same time … the conviction in which he sang one of the most powerful songs to come of the civil rights era. He not only sang this song, but he wrote this song, his inspiration coming from his very own experiences, and belief in a “better day” to come.

And, it is hard not question the “official report” given to the public concerning the mysterious fatal shooting of this legendary icon, son, sibling, husband, father, and friend … in December 1964.

But one thing that is very clear is that the investigation was botched the moment that police entered the room and found him on the floor. Reading the “official report” clearly left more questions than answers. And, the two “witnesses” giving testimony were Elisa Boyer … an alleged hooker whose “source of income” was not allowed in testimony and who, in 1979, was found guilty of second degree murder in the shooting death of her boyfriend … and Bertha Lee Franklin ….the shooter.

Important Update In Support Of Our Truckers

I just had a wonderful phone conversation with Jason's wife, Hope, and she mentioned her concern over the closing of rest areas in New York, leaving truck drivers with even fewer safe choices for safe parking. She mentioned this peaceful protest event, and I wanted to pass it on.

In support of Jason's Law ..... Jason Riverburg .... his surviving family, and all the truckers out there needing safer places to park:

New York is set to shut down 10 rest stop areas, at a time when there is already a shortage of rest areas for our truckers to take their very much needed breaks.

There will be a peaceful protest next Monday, November 1, 2010 ..... at the Schodack rest area in NY off I 90. We are just asking the truckers to please come and take there 10 hr break there to show DOT and the elected officals that these rest areas are so very important to everyone.

Not Helpless Anymore

On Thursday, August 5 at 12pm EST on Three Wise Girls on Blog Talk Radio, we are introducing a very powerful story to all of you. We are here to share with you a little bit about a woman that fell in love with this handsome, athletic guy… The man of her dreams!! They fell in love and got married, she had everything a young woman could ever want, a husband, a career, children in other words her own fairytale come true. Few years into the marriage, shortly after they had their second child, her husband ask her to stop working and take care of the children full-time; she agrees since he was in the military and they were comfortable economically. Shortly after that, he decided to sell her car, because there was no need to have multiple vehicles he said. Then he started timing her and checking the odometer in his car; if she was on the phone he will sit next to her and listen to her conversations.

Later his attentions with her started changing, everything she did appears to be wrong the more she tried to make everything to his standards the worse he treated her. Suddenly one morning without warnings, he grabs her by the ankle pulls her off the bed and starts punching her repeatedly. His excuse, he had a bad report from his commander. Once he calmed down he apologizes and he said it wasn’t going to happen again he said he will seek help and everything will go back to what it was. A week later he got home from work and he didn’t agree with what she cooked for him so he push her against the counter and start beating. This time she woke up in the hospital, no signs of her kids, or him; just few broken ribs and bruises everywhere but even then her physical pain wasn’t as great as the pain of not knowing the fate of her kids; Did he hurt them? Are they safe? Nobody, seems to have an answer.

Finally a familiar face an MP (Military Police) that works with him walks in the door ask her for a statement and, in closing, he said its not as bad as it looks. You should try to work things out! Your kids are safe they will be in the room in a little bit. Sighs of relief were heard from the hospital bed. Once she had some privacy she called the state police and ask them to come to the hospital where they took a statement and arrested him. The Military Police didn’t think it was necessary to press charges, but she took manners into her own hands.

Once he was arrested she called her mother who clearly stated over the phone “You must have done something, and you deserve what he did to you”. Hurt by her mothers words she realizes she was alone; the woman that brought her into this world thinks she deserve it - who is out there that would want to help her out of this situation?

According to the state there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute him plus, since the incident happened on the military premises the military police were to be the ones that needed to press charges. They let him go and the the military let him return to the house again. At this point she didn’t care about herself. She had no family and no money. All she cared about was her children and making sure that they were safe, which is a hard thing to do since she was unable to use the phone because he walked around the house with the cordless in his pocket and will put it in the car while he was at work so she couldn’t call for help. She had no money because he had all the checks, ATM cards, credit cards; everyday she woke up it was a blessing because she was able to see another day.

The Military order him to go to anger management classes and he leaves work to “attend” but (he never make it to the sessions). He said he wanted to change and for a period of few months he did, things were no punches, no bruises, they started to attend church, and spend family time together. She got pregnant (on the pill), he received a phone call from Puerto Rico where they were originally from with bad news his nephew/godson was going to be taken away from his mother and placed in foster care if no one from the family wanted to be responsible for him. They talk and agree to bring the child to live with them. He goes to pick him up, it was really exciting for their kids, and while he went and picked him up the rest of the family went shopping for winter cloth for him and a bedroom set so he had his own things when he arrived. Angel went to up-state NY to live with his new family, the 3 kids were happy but soon the screaming and yelling started all over, only now was there was one more child in the house but she was pregnant again. Angel grows very close to his new family, so close he call his godfather's wife Mom and the kids brother and sister…Angel never had a brother or a sister and he sits with his new mom and tells her "I'm going to be the man of the house and I'm going to take care of all of you". (He was the older among the children) He use to rub his moms belly and say “It will be okay baby”.

One day his “dad” started yelling and he took the rest of the kids into the room and close the door. Dad had mom by the neck and had the water in the tub running and he kept screaming "I should’ve have done this a long time ago". Angel started screaming to leave his mommy alone and he lets go of mom to push Angel out of the bathroom. Mom is afraid that he was going to hurt him and runs out of the bathroom, tired of all the abuse, and reaches for dads gun. When he reached for he,r Angel jumped in the way and dad gave him a deadly blow to his head. Mom grabbed the gun and pointed at him and said “Self defense its not murder” and made him give her the phone. She called the police while pointing at him - his own gun! Mom runs to Angel just to find out that he was not breathing. When police and paramedics arrive at the house they pronounce him dead.

The Military Police remove the man, the woman, the kids and the body of Angel from the house. Kids were put in foster care while they conducted investigations, because according to the Military Police, they didn’t had any records of previous disturbances. Thankfully she had copy of all the paperwork and records from hospital or God knows what would’ve happened. Her father, the kids grandfather, requested custody of the children while they clear moms name. A new baby is born 4 months later healthy and okay, just like Angel said, but her dad had to pick him up from the hospital before social services took him too.

Mom fought tirelessly the military, the department of children and families, and all the people that wanted to make it impossible for her to get on her feet. Wanting to give up many times, tempted to start using alcohol and drugs, with suicidal thoughts because she didn’t only loose Angel, she lost her other kids to the state. Her home that was impounded for evidence; for her there was nothing else she could loose. She stayed strong! Eventually she got custody back of the 2 oldest but by the time they were able to clear her name, the baby was almost a year old and the only mom and dad he knew were his grandparents, so for the childs well being they decided that it was best for them to adopt him.

Her Prince charming was found guilty of murder, 2 counts of aggravated assault, 1 attempted homicide against mom, and he is serving 25 years in Ft. Leavenworth (Military Prison). She knows the pain of losing a child; she knows that the physical pain is nothing compared to the emotional pain that domestic violence cause and how it can scar you for life if you allow it to. Angel’s death is the reason why she and her kids are alive today and she has a testimony to share.

This is the story of Edca, a survivor of domestic violence. She is 33 years old, owns couple clothing stores, and is a talent manager with a company that meets the needs for the entertainment business. The reason why she is sharing part of her story with us is because you, your sister, your mother, your friend, your co-worker, your neighbor can be dealing with domestic violence.

Domestic Violence is not an addiction, it is not contagious but it is embarrassing and full of shame and can be deadly for the person that is in the situation. You can save a life today by letting someone know that no matter how bad it is or how much they love the person they are with, it is not safe for them and for their children.

Domestic violence don’t discriminate. It happens to rich people as well as poor, white, black, asian, latino it doesn’t matter, it affect us all. There is help, and there is hope. Edna has seen abusers that change, but they need to recognize first that they have a problem and they need to seek help. It is a process that can be lengthy and frustrating. Victims, Edna has been there; saw death closer than a lot of you hopefully never have to. Its not easy but there is help, but you have to give the first step and want to fix the situation.

Unfortunately she had to go though tragedy to be offered help. She has met thousands of women with stories similar to hers and worse, and they have come out of that situation and have started over and today they are successful. She has also met women that have said, "Its not that bad, and it will get better". that are no longer with us. She is here today because a seven year old, Angel, her Angel is no longer with her. Domestic Violence took him from her. She didn’t know anyone that could help, anyone that wanted to help. She wasn’t aware of all the programs and help available to help the domestic violence victims nationwide, but now she is and is sharing them here. If you need help, she here as well as thousands of women nationwide that are willing to help, that are willing to walk by your side during those difficult times, and be there for you after the storm has passed….Thank you for taking the time and allowing me to share my story. In November 1981, A beautiful legendary Hollywood star was lost forever. But the mystery behind Natalie Wood's death lingers on. Just when one thinks it's been closed forever as an accidental drowning, new information seems to surface.

Even the day of her death is debated. Most accounts state that Natalie died on November 29, while other accounts state she died November 28.

Marti Rulli and Dennis Davern are making it their mission to get the truth out into the open concerning the actual events leading up to her shocking and untimely death. Marti is the author of "Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour" and Dennis was the boat captain onboard the Splendour at the time of Natalie's death.

In fact, Dennis was the only other person on board that night, along with Natalie, her husband and actor Robert Wagner, and actor Christopher Walken.

In the book, Marti and Dennis suggest that the police investigation was insufficient, that the parties involved received special treatment because of their celebrity status, and that a grave injustice occurred when Natalie's death was brushed aside as an accidental drowning.

There were many unanswered questions. Why were the bruises found on Natalie never recorded in the official autopsy? Why did Wagner wait to radio ashore that Natalie was missing from the boat? Why wouldn't he allow Dennis to use the boat light which would certainly had help in the immediate search?

"Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour" is a detailed account of events that led to the mysterious death of Natalie Wood. It is a story told by a haunted witness, Dennis Davern. Those of us of a specific generation remember hearing about the death of Natalie, and may even remember the details that were given out by the media. Now it is time to hear the story from the man who was actually on board that night, and has been living with the guilt that he somehow failed Natalie by not coming forward at the time with what really happened.

What can we say about Joe Franklin? His TV show ran for 40 consecutive years and, in many ways, he was the pioneer of the TV Talk Show Format! Laura Wagner, Film Critic/Film Writer: “And Then I Watched….”

Laura Wagner is resident film critic for Classic Images, the celebrated and iconic tome that is everything classic films. An avid movie watcher from her youngest years, Laura would take notes on movies—titles, actors, dates, other details. She had a notebook, she says, and each time she re-watched a movie, and she did that a lot, she’d review what she’d written, and mark off that she’d seen a movie again. During school lunch, every day, she’d read movie books. At home, once she’d done her homework, she’d read more movie books … and at quite a young age, she started to CORRECT some of the mis-information in some of these movie books.

So begins the story of someone who’s lived and breathed movies most of her life. There’s virtually nothing Laura Wagner can’t recall about a movie. So it was that when she began reviewing movies for Classic Images years ago, she became quite the sensation in classic movie fandom. She also reviews books on the market about industry people—actors, producers, directors, collections and collectors … you name it—the wildly famous all the way down to the barely-known.

Jason's Last Ride-The Truth About Trucking

On Thursday March 5, 2009, Jason Rivenburg pulled his truck into a gas station that has been used frequently, and considered to be somewhat safe. Jason was only twelve miles from his destination, but could not make delivery because it was too early. His delivery never took place. Jason was shot and killed as he rested in his truck. Jason leaves behind a young son and a wife who gave birth thirteen days after Jason was killed.

It's a fact that if truck stops were required to provide adequate lighting, cameras and if delivery sites provided secure waiting areas crimes of this nature could be prevented. It's also a fact that they aren't required to do so.

Jason's case is not an isolated event. Stories just like this one are emerging everyday, and it's time the general public took note. Anyone thinking that this isn't a problem that affects us all, needs to walk into the local Target, Walmart, or food store and imagine what it would it be like with empty shelves. It is easy to talk for granted that those shelves will always be stocked, without considering the men and women truckers who are literally putting their lives in danger to make sure family and food clothes on their back.

A Conversation with Paul Petersen

Child star, pop singer, writer, spokesman and child rights activist Paul Petersen has many talents. A good chunk of America watched Paul grow up on “The Donna Reed Show” from age 12 to 20 (1958-1966) on ABC every Thursday night playing Jeff Stone. He became the dreaded Bubble Gum Star, complete with hit records, screaming fans, fast cars and faster women. He had a lot of fun in an era when you could understand the words to popular music and sex couldn’t kill you.

He worked quite a bit before the Donna Reed Show, rising up from the debacle of being a Fired Mouse at age 9 to perform in national commercials, then gradually moving into more important roles on classics like “Playhouse 90,” “Lux Video Theater,” and “Ford Theater.” These led to movies, and by 1957 he co-starred in the much-loved “Houseboat” with Cary Grant and Sophia Loren, which led directly to The Donna Reed Show.

After the eight year, 276 episode ‘run’ of The Donna Reed Show he worked on a string of movies and television shows (“Happiest Millionaire,” “Journey to Shiloh,” “Time For Killing,” “Something for a Lonely Man,” “Gidget Grows Up” and more, but each year the work grew less and less. The handwriting was on the wall. He made some terrible choices in his 20’s…drugs, alcohol, bad people and worse associations…and eventually realized that Mickey Rooney’s advice (“Get out of town for at least 25 years, Paul”) was absolutely correct. There is little room in Hollywood for “former kid stars.” He made the move back to Connecticut and began a new adventure. Simon & Schuster gave him a chance to prove himself as a writer, and after 16 published books, he considers himself an author…when he's not being an advocate for working children everywhere they labor.

A Minor Consideration- his not-for-profit organization actually began as a book, but the needs of the kids he grew up with and admired soon showed him that it was more important to actually DO something about the problems rather than just collect and record the stories. The death by suicide of Rusty Hamer (“The Danny Thomas Show”) actually started the organization in January 1990. At the beginning it was just his wife, Rana Platz-Petersen, RN, the current Business Representative of Local 767, IATSE, Studio First Aid, and him. Their early interventions were successful and gradually they drew other “formers” into the foundation. Today there are more than 600 former kid stars involved with AMC. They are all in “Trivial Pursuit.”

A partial list of the accomplishments of AMC can be found on the website, www.minorcon.org. AMC is pursuing an ambitious legislative program with successful landmark legislation passed in five states, and is committed to ending the exemption to federal child labor standards suffered by children in the Entertainment Business found in the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The rules for working children should be the same everywhere, and their protection a societal guarantee.

All of us have read the Disclaimer at the end of movies that says, “No animal was killed or injured in the making of this film.” AMC thinks that sort of Disclaimer ought to apply to children, too. Don’t you?

The very same character traits that resulted in Paul being Fired from The Mickey Mouse Club (for Conduct Unbecoming a Mouse) back in 1955 are, for better or worse, still present in the man he has become, turning 65 years old and now known as a leading advocate for the rights of working children. Time Magazine calls him “the predatory spokesman for kid actors” and rightly so, because when there is “trouble” he shows up.

Paul currently the AFTRA Chair of the Young Performers Committee, a credentialed Delegate at the United Nations for the World Safety Organization charged with improving the welfare of 250 million children who go to work everyday, a past Board-member of SAG and a sitting National and Local Board Member of AFTRA. He sits on the Board of the Fender Museum, and the Center for Improved Child Caring, as well as the American Foundation for Drug Prevention, and the Child Labor Coalition.

Classic Entertainment -- Feeding The Niche

It wasn't long ago when the idea of "classic movies" went no farther back in general memory than maybe twenty years for most. Not so anymore. These days, there is a growing hunger for anything nostalgia, especially in classic entertainment. Whether it's in TV or movies or even radio shows from pre-TV days, the market is exploding. Are you interested in Cary Grant or Clark Gable or Robert Taylor? Check the internet ... you'll find exactly where you can get the latest and greatest in everything and anything related to classic film, TV, radio and its mega-stars.

What if you're more intrigued by names which not everyone immediately recognizes, such as Colleen Moore or Dean Stockwell? How do you find what it is you're looking for on the now more obscure stars from the days of nostalgia entertainment? Again, look to the internet. It's getting easier and easier to ferret out details, or find the old shows, or get photos and magazines and other pieces of entertainment-related ephemera.

Three Wise Girls: Free-For-All!

It’s a flippin’ free-for-all and it could get wild and crazy … so hold onto your Depends! We’ve been threatening this for some time. Debbie, Dori, and I have spoken with a lot of interesting people since we started our show in October of last year, and topics have been all over the map. We can’t chat up that many people without having an opinion … or fourteen … of our own.

We’ve been told by listeners they enjoy our banter, so why not let the floodgates open and see what happens? We might talk about people wearing flip flops in a high-falutin’ corporate office.

Or society’s juvies-in-training being tasered—(or tazered or stun-gunned … ANOTHER topic for discussion?).

Most people know who George Clooney is. And quite a few have seen one of his latest movies, "Men who stare at Goats". But, I doubt if all of those same people have heard of Peter Brusso .... yet. The number of people that do know him is growing in huge numbers.

Peter Brusso is actually the man who inspired, in part, the role played by George Clooney, in the movie. The tool George Clooney is seen brandishing in the movie was invented and designed by Peter Brusso.

Peter Brusso took up Martial arts as a young child of six, due to an incident that happened at school. From that point on, he was destined to become a tenacious fighter.

Peter used his martial skills and warrior spirit in surviving the jungles of Cambodia for 10 months, during the Vietnam Era.

After returning to civilian life, Peter obtained a formal education from California State University at Sacramento (CSUS), where he'd earn a Degree in Electrical and Electronic engineering. He used his training to invent equipment used on a national professional sports level, enabling him to become a patent holder six times over.

Even with all these accomplishments, Peter has always kept martial arts very close to his heart. He is a subject matter expert for the US Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, both as an artist and as a learning specialist.

He holds black belt status in Hapkido, Wing Chun (sash), Ninjutsu, machete fighting, knife fighting, weapon disarms, and close quarter battle. He is also one of the few-registered Ninja’s in America. He is also a filmmaker, and has written and produced several training films and movies on military history.

And ...he is currently in discussions with producers to create his very own reality show.

In November 1981, A beautiful legendary Hollywood star was lost forever. But the mystery behind Natalie Wood's death lingers on. Just when one thinks it's been closed forever as an accidental drowning, new information seems to surface.

Even the day of her death is debated. Most accounts state that Natalie died on November 29, while other accounts state she died November 28.

Marti Rulli and Dennis Davern are making it their mission to get the truth out into the open concerning the actual events leading up to her shocking and untimely death. Marti is the author of "Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour" and Dennis was the boat captain onboard the Splendour at the time of Natalie's death.

In fact, Dennis was the only other person on board that night, along with Natalie, her husband and actor Robert Wagner, and actor Christopher Walken.

In the book, Marti and Dennis suggest that the police investigation was insufficient, that the parties involved received special treatment because of their celebrity status, and that a grave injustice occurred when Natalie's death was brushed aside as an accidental drowning.

There were many unanswered questions. Why were the bruises found on Natalie never recorded in the official autopsy? Why did Wagner wait to radio ashore that Natalie was missing from the boat? Why wouldn't he allow Dennis to use the boat light which would certainly had help in the immediate search?

"Goodbye Natalie Goodbye Splendour" is a detailed account of events that led to the mysterious death of Natalie Wood. It is a story told by a haunted witness, Dennis Davern. Those of us of a specific generation remember hearing about the death of Natalie, and may even remember the details that were given out by the media. Now it is time to hear the story from the man who was actually on board that night, and has been living with the guilt that he somehow failed Natalie by not coming forward at the time with what really happened.

Mompreneurs - a New Breed of Business-Owners!

As a mother of three it was always a challenge to balance raising them and earning a living to provide for them! I did so many different things, waited on tables, cleaned offices, home health care, things I could do while they were with their dad so I could be a stay at home mom. Then the time came when they were all in school full time and I was able to go back to the corporate world. I became the Director of Marketing for a graphics company in NYC as was able to somewhat work my schedule around the kids. We would walk to the bus-stop together in the morning and then I would continue my walk to the train station and commute into the city. Wednesday and Thursday afternoons I left at 3 so I could pick the kids up at the after-school program - the other days their dad had them so I could stay at the office and work late. The balancing act was working fairly well and I was earning an excellent living instead of just getting by.

Well - the day came that my daughter got sick at school and they called me at work. I went into the bosses office and told him what was going on and that I would have to wrap things up here so I could go and get her. Now, when I took the job it was with the understanding that on the rare occasion that one of the kids was ill - or became ill at school - I would work from home. This was the first time this happened in the six months I had been working there and my boss told me that he was paying me X amount of money and that I couldn't leave. It took me all of about three seconds to tell him what he could do with my paycheck and gave him two-weeks notice. It was the first time as a mom that one of my kids was sick and someone else had to pick them up for me. Well - my kids are now 21, 20 and 17 and it was the last time that ever happened!

Becoming a Mompreneur was a choice that I made when my youngest was 6 and I have never looked back. Mompreneurs are the group of women who run a business and raise children with the children always coming first. My Three Wise Girls co-hosts can attest to this the day we had our power call scheduled and my daughter, who is now seventeen, got sick! Mom had to take her to the doctor and I had to bow out of the call to be with her. Thankfully my kids didn't get sick too often, but when they did, appointments were changed, networking events were missed and the home office was put to great use.

All of us out there that have found ways to be at our kids ball-games, or dance recitals or class trip while working on growing our businesses have created a workforce where we don't have to sacrifice time with our children to become successful. Either way, there’s little in our world that can’t get you a good laugh, if you look at it the right way. Ask any professional comedian. That’s exactly what we’re doing on our next show. The Three Wise Girls base our premise on the idea that we’re “wise.” Take that whatever way you wish—as in “wisdom,” or “wise … you-know-what’s.” On any given day, the term may embrace either definition, or both.

Every evening, it's the same old story on our local news station.

We are always hearing about people being abducted while getting into their car. Sadly, most are found later in a different location, some raped, most dead. The lucky ones are the ones that live through it.

We hear about people being robbed while retrieving money at an outside ATM machine.

We hear about someone being kidnapped, and later killed by an ex-spouse.

We hear about the young woman who awakes in the early morning hours to find someone standing over them, saying "don't scream or I'll kill you."

And remarkably, we all think that this only happens to other people.

According to the latest crime statistics at http://www.nationmaster.com/cat/cri-crime and http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/ucr.htm :

In 2008 there were 78,833 rapes reported in the nation.

75%-85% of rapes are committed without using a weapon.

68%-72% of attacks on women are committed by someone they know.

Over 50% of rapes or sexual assaults are not reported to police.

Of those rapes only 40.4% were cleared by arrest or exceptional means.

11.7% of clearance by arrest or exceptional means were under age of 18.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that there are any statistics pointing to all those who were victims, and who didn't think it could happen to them.

And, I don't think that for most, when doing a "things to do" list, taking a self-defense class is high on the list, if at all. And yet, it could be the most important thing that any of us do. Do you have it on your "to do" list? Excuse the pun ... but it couldn't hurt.

Valentine's Day - the In's and Out's of it all!

Well - February 14th 2010 is just around the corner - we here on the Three Wise Girls show want to share the ups and downs of the day. Do you have a wonderfully romantic story to share - or are you Valentine memories filled with funny traditions - or do you just go to bed on the 13th and come back out on the 15th!?!? Are you a retailer with unique gifts for lovers, or the florist busy making up those bouquets? Whatever your tradition we want to hear all about it as we share the things we've learned about Valentine's Day and its history.

Mid February became the month for romance back in the pagan days with the holiday Lupricalia - named after Lupa who suckled Romulus and Remus and Faunis - the God of Fertility. The festival would begin with ritual sacrifices and then the young women would be slapped with the skins of the sacrificed animals to bestow fertility on them. How's that for a way to get you in the mood!?!?!

Cupid wasn't always Cupid - he was Eros - the Greek God that was so handsome that God's and Humans would go weak in the knees in his presence. He had 2 sets of arrows - gold for love and lead for hate. He shot Apollo the Sun God with a gold arrow to make him fall in love with the nymph Daphne - but he shot her with a lead arrow so she would run from him. Eros' mother was the Goddess Venus and she was intensely jealous of the mortal Psyche and send Eros to her to make her fall in love with a hideous beast - but he pricked himself with his own arrow and fell hopelessly in love with her. As he was a God and she a mortal, Eros had to keep his identity a secret. In later years it was the Romans who turned Eros the handsome God into Cupid the little cherub with the arrow!

Bet many of us didn't know that an imprisoned priest - Father Valentine back in the 3rd century sent the first note signed from your Valentine. That's right - Emperor Claudius II in his lust for power - pulled all the young men from their families to create his vast armies. He even went so far as to ban marriages outright. Well Father Valentine was the priest who went against the emperor and secretly married young couples. He was caught and sentenced to death by Claudius and imprisoned. Legend has it that the young couples would visit him in his cell and bring him flowers and treats to thank him for marrying them. Father Valentine fell in love with his jailer's daughter and on February 14th, the day of his execution, passed her a note signed from your Valentine - and the tradition began!

Now Valentine's Day is a 14 BILLION DOLLAR industry annually with more that 180,000,000 red roses and 36,000,000 heart-shaped boxes of candy sent to loved ones. Stuff & Things: An Entertaining Look at Change of Life

Okay, unless you’ve lived under that proverbial rock for the last, oh, 30 or so years, you’ve certainly heard just about everything there is to hear about the “change of life.” Dum … da … dum … dum!! You’ve bought the creams, you’ve listened to experts tell you why you’re losing your sexual desire, you’ve screamed when some of your hair falls out, you’re living in clothes made of “moisture wicking” material, and if anyone makes one more crack about a hot flash … you—will—KILL them!

So what could possibly be funny about all this? Look at it from the other angle—what could possibly NOT be funny about all this? There’s that saying, “I’m out of estrogen, and I have a gun!” Of course you don’t mean it … right? But you’re just on the edge enough to wanna make people wonder. Why not laugh? You’ve gotta admit that some of this stuff is so outrageous that it truly is funny. God must have a heckuva sense of humor to make females mature earlier than males, reach their sexual peak before males, and then make them hot, hot HOT … but in a different way.

This idea came to a head recently for me as I had lunch with a friend I hadn’t seen in 23 years. That’s a long time, and life truly changes in 2+ decades. We had a lot to talk about … and we did. Whaddya expect? Two women, 40++, at a table with food, no men, and no real deadline to keep that day—of course we were going to talk. And of course one of the topics had to be our advancing years.

“Stuff & Things” refers to a moment in our conversation when we started talking about a particular topic of interest to women of a certain age … the idea that there are signs of the change of life, and those signs include such things as forgetting specific words.

You’re having that conversation. You’re engaged and animated, and the words are flowing—mostly.

“I was out at the store the other day,” you tell your friend. “And I bought … well, you know, I bought that … um … that stuff that’s s’posed to help stop night sweats. It works, for the most part, but there are moments when … hmmm … moments when … well, things just can’t help at all … y’know?” You finish your conversation lamely, embarrassed that the words just disappeared—plain and simple, they disappeared—from your brain when you needed them the most.

Teenage Gangs-The New Family Structure?

In July of 2007, Rev. Ora Stearns-Smith got the worst possible call a mother can received. Her son, Aric Jai-Shon Lexing, had become the victim of a teenage gang shooting, and had died from his injuries. Jai was not a gang member ... not then ...not ever. No, he was a young man who had said yes to someone he barely knew, who asked him for a ride home after a party. Apparently, the passenger was on a local gang's hit list. As Jai and his passenger pulled up and stopped the car, the shooting started and the gang got their target ... and took Jai's life as well. Ironically, Jai had just received his Masters in Criminal Justice just two months earlier in May, 2007, and was waiting to pursue a career in law enforcement. Sadly, the lives of everyone that Jai had touched would be changed forever.

Teenage gang-related statics are truly no more than best estimates. The obvious reasons are that it's not realistic to believe that people can go door-to-door and gather information any more than it is to think that there is an office where gangs and gang members go to register their activity.

According to one online statistical source and a 2009 estimate, there are approximately 24,500 gangs in the U.S, and one million gang members. It would be wonderful, since these are estimated numbers, if the statistics represented were overstated. My fear, however, is that they could actually be understated.

So, the obvious question is what should we, as a united front, do about this? We all do a lot of gasping, shaking our heads, and talking about it. But, what are we doing about it? And who is to blame for the increasing number of teenagers (and much younger) choosing gangs as their family. Is it the parents, the school system, movies, t.v, music, the lack of teenage role models (I mean the good kind), the law and lack of stricter penalties......or is it....etc...etc...and so on.

We don't pretend to have the answers. We are asking you. Who do you think is responsible for the increasing number of violent gangs in the U.S., and what do you think we should do about it?

Cougars...love 'em or...

Time to blast the myths...Cougars are smart, savvy, confident women that are not ruled by a number - they are sure of who they are and not afraid to go where no one has gone before. Gone are the days where an older woman with a younger man is considered desperate, or a sugar mama. Cougars are the new 40ish woman that knows what she wants and isn't going to worry about what someone else thinks about her going out and getting it.

Times are changing and the older woman/younger man relationship is the hottest ticket out there. For so long it was socially unacceptable, although it makes much more sense since women don't need a "little blue pill" to keep up with their partner...lucky us!!! But trust us - being a cougar is so much more than that - although there is nothing wrong with "that", is there???

It's me, Dori, the only one of the Three Wise Girls that is not married, and the one that hit both demographics. I am in my 40's, single and the older I am the younger the men asking me out. I also look over the other side of the fence as the mother of 2 20-something sons that are very mature for their age who have always attracted older girls, and someday, older women.

So, here I sit, gazing at both sides. As a "cougar" I must confess that I wasn't attracted to young guys when I was young myself. I am attracted to confidence and maturing and that air of confidence that usually comes with age. I did have one experience a few years ago with someone 14 years younger than me and we were just in different places, he was looking to settle down and start a family and, while I do want to find someone to share that part of my life with, he would have only been Mr. Right-now for me, and that wasn't enough for either one of us.

I have always tried not to judge others I would like to think that I would be cool if my sons came home with on of my "peers" as their date, but I can't be sure. I can only hope that if and when it does one day happen, she is someone who will share the benefits of her experience and be gentle and not break his heart. (Anyone out there remember "Tea and Sympathy?) My friend Tina once said to me that if one of my sons liked older women that she wanted to throw her hat in the ring. She also promised that she would teach him so well that the women who came after her would be putting flowers on her grave in thanks!

All kidding aside, men have had that Hollywood "Mrs. Robinson" fantasy for a long time, because it was the one place that it has always been in vogue to see younger men with older women. Finally the rest of the world is catching up, and cougars are the new "It" Girl.

So, with all that said, are you a smart, sexy woman that finds that they are attracting younger men that see you for the amazing catch that you are, or perhaps you are the mom of one of the younger men that are mature enough to capture a cougars attention. I guess most people dream at night (or day, depending on when they sleep, i.e. vampires), at least every so often. I feel sorry for those that never dream, as dreams can be quite entertaining, as well as enlightening. I'm not a dream expert, specialist, or doctor (is there such a thing?), but I can tell you how often I dream (often), that I dream in color (technicolor), and that I dream in "symbolism". I also dream about events that have actually occurred. Not so often, only a handful of times in my life.

I will always remember the first time this happened, of course. Actually, I should say the first time I knew it happened. This dream involved an event that happened to my brother's best friend (loved as a part of our family), living in Georgia. My brother and I were both living in Florida at the time. When I told my brother about the dream, he looked at me strangely (not necessarily an uncommon look from him), and called our friend immediately from my apartment. Long story short, I had dreamt about an event that had actually taken place a couple of days earlier. The time of day, location, etc. was right on the money. As this was something that was not meant to be of common knowledge, they knew that I really had no way of knowing this. This was in the 70's and it would be a long while before I had another dream like this. At least, of that I'm aware.

There have been a few more, but the other one that I will most likely not forget was the one in which John died.

I dreamt that I was walking down the isle leading to my office at work early one morning, when I noticed people had gathered around outside John's office. As I approached, I asked someone what had happened. Someone replied, "John died." I don't remember much of the dream other than that. I went to work that morning (awake this time), and the day was really no different than any other day. In conversation with a co-worker, I mentioned the dream I had about John. I also told him that I dreamed in "symbolism" and that the dream might not have anything to do with this particular person, and jokingly suggested that he be careful going out to lunch. Much to my relief, the day passed with no one, especially not John, dying.

The next morning, I came in earlier than usual to work. The secretary came into my office, knelt down and whispered, "did you hear what happened to John?" When I answered that I had not, she said, "He committed suicide last night!" I just sat and stared at her. As much as I was naturally shocked, of course, she had no idea about the dream I had the night before. As I said earlier, I dream in "symbolism". The John who had died was not the one across from me, but the one downstairs, with which I had recently worked on some reports. I heard Butch when he came into his office. I went over to him and could tell he had already heard the news. I started to speak and he said, "I don't even want to talk about it." "You scare me ...", meaning the conversation we'd had earlier.

Now, I am sharing this with you, not because I think "I'm special" (I do think my husband and Jake the beagle think this however), or because I want to change or challenge your skeptical minds. I just believe that this happens more often than people think. I think there are people that realize they have just dreamt about a very real event they had no earlier knowledge of, but choose not to comment, simply because they are afraid of being scoffed and laughed at. And of course there is the "it's just a coincidence" response as well.

I am actually rather cynical about people's intentions (comes with age I guess) and truly don't believe in all of the self-professed psychics, mediums, and intuitives. However, I know that it happens with me and therefore, I have to believe it happens with others as well.

If you have a story about a dream or recurrent dream that proves itself to be an actual event, be bold, be real, and share it with us. Maybe you know someone who has experienced this. Maybe you believe that this really happens, or maybe you think it's a "crock". That's fine if you think it's a crock. I doubt if you would find yourself on my Christmas card list, anyway.

The Three Wise Girls have decided to follow a new path for 2010. Call it a New Year’s Resolution, or an epiphany … either way, call it a smart move. We’ve developed a new mantra, “It’s a conversation, not an interview,” and we intend to focus mostly on topics, rather than only on specific people. This will allow us to embrace a larger audience. Certainly the topics we might cover on any random week’s show are topics that will relate to most anyone—dreams, funny people, whether you love or hate sports, cookies … and who-knows-how-many-other subjects of day-to-day life. We, The Three Wise Girls, will offer you the forum. You call in and talk to us about the “Subject du Jour,” or in proper French, “Suject du Jour.” At least I think that’s proper French. I’m sure you’ll tell me if it isn’t.

Now with all that said and speaking of French, we DO have a special guest for our very first show of 2010. After all, rules are made to be broken, aren’t they? At least occasionally. And if we’re the ones who made the rules, heck, on occasion we may just have to break them.

Our topic for January 7, 2010 will be race relations, cultural identification, and the truly unique world of all things Louisiana. Christophe Vanderhogan-Landry was born in New Iberia, LA. French-Creole by cultural identification, American by nationality, Christophe works tirelessly to reinvigorate and revitalize the Creole and French languages. He has mastered multiple languages, including the nearly-lost art of speaking Creole—a heritage as much as a way of speaking. He’s a mixed-race international American citizen who advocates for racial equality through coming together, not separation.

Beverly Mahone First Featured Guest on Three Wise Girls BTR!

I knew, the first moment I met her in person that Beverly Mahone was a force to be reckoned with. There was absotively no question. I’d already gotten involved with her Boomer Diva Nation group but when I walked into the auditorium in Baltimore where the book signing was being held, one of which we were both a part, who was the first person to really greet me and genuinely engage with me, one-on-one? Our own Bev Mahone, of course. Ever since that initial in-person connection, I’ve been literally amazed with this woman. I do believe if you look up the term “powerhouse” in any dictionary, anywhere, you’re going to find Bev’s picture. No further explanation is required.

From just an idea, a dream of what could be, Beverly Mahone has built Boomer Diva Nation into a thriving, inspiring, and undoubtedly beneficial organization to better the lives of those of us “of a certain age” who are forging forward into middle years and beyond, with excitement, verve, and a belief that every single day can be better than the next. Many say age is nothing but a number. I don’t agree. I think age is, as Debbie Barth, a fellow member of Three Wise Girls pronounced this morning, “a badge of experience.” And what good is experience if we don’t try to use ours to better the lives of every individual whose paths we cross?

Beverly has done, and continues to do, exactly that. The woman must never sleep. She has more ideas than anyone I’ve ever met . . . ideas, mind you, that she actually implements. No astroturf grows under this woman’s feet! You can be almost certain that if a possibility crosses her mind that can be turned into a positive reality for her Boomer Diva Nation group—Bev is not going to let that option get away from her. She’s direct, to-the-point, and a true businesswoman . . . a businesswoman with heart and soul who's had many experiences and wants to share whatever she can to help wherever and whenever she can.

Ha ha ha ha ha ... I'm laughing so hard right now. Can't stop. Here I was, reading and re-reading, and reading again, Pam Archer's reply to my post, "Are You A Wise Girl?" She asked, "By the way, what is Blot Talk Radio?" and I kept thinking, "Hmmm ... surely Pam knows that it's BLOG Talk Radio and definitely knows what it is."

You dum-dum, Linda!!!! I just read my post yet again. Blot Talk Radio ... to answer your question, Pam, I guess that's where we give the Rorschach Test to our guests to see what they see--and if we can see the same thing. Clearly, our friends are seeing what's right ... and Linda needs a new pair of glasses. Or maybe just a brainwave test to see if they're really still working.

Oh Linda, how senile can we get?!

A Brave New World--Technology, Skype, Love, and Kazakhstan

It’s a brave new world and I can prove it. One of our sons met a young lady at the University of Alabama. He’s from Florida. She is from Kazakhstan. As in the Republic of Kazakhstan. As in the Russian/Chinese neighborhood. Like … not around the corner. Nowhere near.

They fell in love. She soon had to go home. They didn’t want to be apart and in, oh, maybe the last month, we learned they were getting married. In Kazakhstan. We were invited, but that’s not the sort of thing where you hop online, buy a ticket, pack your bags, and run to the airport. Especially if you don’t have a passport, and your husband’s is expired.

Plans may have suffered a bit in translation. They were made in Kazakhstan, in their language. We got intermittent details. So it was a mishmash when the phone rang last night—they’re eleven hours ahead—about a wedding today. Today for us, anywho. For them … tomorrow. We continued to try and call back into the night but the call wouldn’t go through. This morning, Hubby had to go out early for an issue which couldn’t be put off. An out-of-town’er was here for a business deal. When our phone rang at 9 AM, a heavily accented woman’s voice said she was a translator. Richard couldn’t be on the phone since he was “outside having a wedding.” An hour later, Richard called, asking me to get on Skype and watch the reception.

I’ve used Skype—with my wonderful Three Wise Girls buddies—but never video. I didn’t know my laptop had video. Shows how techno-aware I am. Hubby walked in then; between us, we got it. Should’ve seen my face when I saw video on my laptop! Should’ve seen my face since, thanks to the hoopla, I wasn’t wearing make-up. Not good since we had to toast the lovely couple—with soda—and on camera for wedding party and guests. We chatted with bride and groom and her parents … via translator (except for Richard).

That took up the morning. Hubby and I learned about Kazakhstan and a new culture. Mastered Skype in a big way. Then went out and bought a videocam and spent the afternoon playing with grandkids—in California. Now that I’m a pro with this techno stuff … she says with tongue firmly planted in cheek … I’m jumping into the brave new world to use knowledge for business as well as family fun. It came at me real fast and I’m going to embrace it the same way. Three Wise Girls … Debbie and Dori—I feel SO sorry for you!!

Morality-Integrity-Family

I visited one of my favorite social groups this morning. One post stood out. This member was sadly sharing the news of, yet another, innocent bystander in critical condition after being shot in a drive-by shooting. This young 13 year-old girl was riding her bicycle, and just happened to be riding by when the shooting occurred. The member asked within her post, and I quote, "Why is it that we have gotten to the point where life seems to be just so unimportant? Are we as a people so selfish and self centered that we don't even consider the consequences of our actions?". End of quote.

So many thoughts ran through my mind and I responded with just a few of my thoughts. Another member commented on my response, and suggested that I blog my response. And so, we have my blog entry for today.

I think our situation today is due to many factors. I believe it has to do with the fact that we are literally hanging ourselves with the interpretation of our rights, both God given and constitutionally given. Here is only a few examples of where I'm coming from.

I love the right to freedom of speech but abhor the violence, language ... and overall messages being delivered in movies, songs, TV & video games. I love our religious freedoms, but I am furious that in our celebration of everyone's belief and ideology, many of us are now not allowed to pray in schools or business meetings. It's now politically correct to say "holiday tree" instead of "Christmas tree".

In respecting others views on marriage, divorce and sexuality, we have become a nation where it is accepted as normal that 50% of mariages will fail ... and do ...(2007 statistics-http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/mardiv_tables.htm). It's common place for men to have fathered children with several women, with no regard to the welfare of the children. And, in fairness, many women have that same attitude.

There is so much more to this equation, and stay tune ... I'll probably will be sharing my opinion on the other factors very soon, as is my nature.

I just think we need to step back and take a look at where we are and where we had rather be, and then start joining forces to make this a better world. Notice I didn't say go back to a better time. There were times that were simpler with no media or technology, but those weren't necessarily better times for individuals. Obviously the 60's were times of turmoil ... and so it goes.

No, I think that "better times" should start today. And it starts with some good old fashion standards of morality, integrity and family.

The Power of Twitter!

I am completely amazed at the power of Twitter. The spectrum of people that you find tweeting back and forth is remarkable. Believe me, when Theresa - S1's Director of Finance - asked me if I was on twitter - I knew what a powerful tool this really is. If you knew Theresa and her lack of web-based marketing knowledge, you would understand. Needless to say, she was very happy to see that I am happily tweeting away.

Through my tweeting I have connected with amazing "tweeple" from all walks of life - and enjoy sharing information with them daily. My internet was down for a few days a week or so ago and twitter was what I missed the most. Part of the time I was able to use my Blackberry to tweet - but then the router also went out - so I was up cheese creek without a cracker!

As wonderful as twitter is - the most amazing result has been the "birth" of Three Wise Girls - @DebbieBarth @lindaalexander and me - @Dori_S1_Bags - these are our twitter names so please connect with us there and follow along.

We will be coming to BlogTalkRadio this October and hope to share with you our experiences as women growing businesses, writing books, raising a family and all the special challenges that it entails.

You've heard it every where else, and you are going to hear it here as well. Michael Vick is now "flying with the Eagles" To say that "feathers are being ruffled" is an understatement.

I'm still not convinced that he is sorry for the hideous criminal acts he committed or just sorry that he got caught and had to pay a price for it. So far, the only atonement I've seen has been court-ordered atonement. And, I'm not so sure the humble words tumbling out of his mouth are coming from his heart, or from a carefully scripted speech drawn up by his lawyers.

His case and the annoucement of his conditional reinstatement is now being compared by some with the Donte Stallworth incident. Donte is a wide-receiver for the Cleveland Browns. He has recently been placed on a one year suspension by the NFL for his part in a DUI vehicle manslaughter case. Donte will also be spending 30 days in jail, last I heard. There are those who feel that Vick is being treated unfairly in comparison with the light sentence that Stallworth received. I whole-heartedly agree that Stallworth got off incredibly easy. I understand that Stallworth took a life due to his drinking and driving. I think the laws should be a heck of lot tougher. However, to say what Donte did is worse because it is a human and that a dog's life is less important frosts my butt! Yep, I said the "butt" word.

In my opinion, animals are beautiful creatures sent from God. Dogs at least are said to have the mental capacity for understanding words of a two-year old child. Given the right loving home, they are warm, caring and nurturing animals. They are living beings, just as we are. The big difference is that they are trusting animals who depend on us for their safety and well-being and give so much back in return.

My thoughts are this. Stallworth did intend on going out and drinking that night. He did intend on drinking and partying all night. And, he did intend on driving home without any reservations. And, he's probably done the very same thing numerous times. However, I don't believe that he also intended to take a life that last fateful night. Again, just for the record, I absolutely think that the light sentence he got was ludicrious.

My point is this. Michael Vick knew of ... and according to official court documents ... did take part in the torture of animals on his property which included the hanging of dogs, the drowning of dogs, and the electrocution of dogs. This wasn't one time ... but time and time again! He intended for these actions to talk place over and over again. This wasn't a one-time bad decision with consequences he would regret later. This was a repeated horrendous criminal act.

Now, admittedly, I am not the most forgiving person on the earth. But I do know that time will tell the real Michael Vick story and, at the end of the day, the real Michael Vick will step forward. I will also admit that he will not have an easy time of it and that there are people out there that will scrutinize everything he does. One false move, could mean jail time again. And let's face it, the Eagles are not doing this out of love...they are doing it out of greed. If the new Vick doesn't perform on the football field like the old Vick, he will not be around publicly for us to judge, one way or another.

Networking Or Land of the Living Dead?

A network is defined (Merriam-Webster) as a usually informally interconnected group or association of persons (as friends or professional colleagues). People join networks in order to share common interests, ie hobbies, music, books, etc. Online professionals join networks to interact with other online professionals, share experiences, wisdom, and most of all... let's be honest.... to get the word out about them, their products/services and to create sales/make money. A zombie is defined (Merriam-Webster) as a person held to resemble the so-called walking dead. There is more than one definition found in credible dictionaries, but this one suits the purpose of this article perfectly. I, like many online business professionals, belong to several online marketing networks. I actually do my research and attempt to join only those marketing networks with the same core beliefs and standards and whose members are serious online business entrepreneurs and professionals. I then go in and set up my profile information, attach my picture, and hang up my shingles....ok.... add my website links.

By now my readers are wondering what the connection is between the two above, and where could I possibly be going. And thus, the following... It takes but only a couple of days to realize that I am, once again, in a land with the "living dead". Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the networks, and the staff, of which I am a member. Nor am I referring to most of the esteemed members.

This writer simply has her own opinion of what networking is (or should be) all about. For example, I love it when other members drop by my profile page and leave a comment/sign my guestbook. I mean a real comment, like "hi, I'm from Texas, too. Dropped by your website and I think that we have real networking opportunities.......". Something along those lines. Often, however, someone will drop off an online card or cute graphic, and simply say "hi". Quite frankly, I feel the same amount of emotion about that as I do when I go to my mail box and find a little plastic "thing-a-ma-jiggy" (with an advertisement inside) attached and dangling in the wind. Or say, that piece of paper just under your windshield wiper that you don't notice until you are actually driving down the road.

I also enjoy getting "friends requests", and being asked to join their groups, etc. However, I always wonder WHY after I discover that they haven't visited my websites, googled me, or really read my profile.

I mean, how do they REALLY know that I am not a Porn Queen (imagine inviting one to your group and having her do an impromptu presentation for your group), or some whacko who slips out of his room at night and logs into the mental hospital's computer. Hopefully, now I have your attention and will attempt to connect the two above definitions. You don't have to join 100 networks to be successful, either. Again, do your research and pick just a few of the ones that are most compatible to you, your business, as well as your core belief and standards for doing business.

Why, because being a successful networking member requires participation from YOU. If you spread yourself too thin, then you are wasting your time setting up your profile, etc. It takes setting aside some time to read the bulletins, forum post/group posts.....and responding. If the staff of the group asks for your participation in group meetings, etc., try to be there. Bottom line, make your presence known.....even better....define your presence. How do you define your presence? Simply by using the blogs (if your network provides you with one), posting to the forums, going to online meetings and letting the other members hear your comments and suggestions. Some networks will also allow you to do a presentation of your products and services. By all means, take advantage of it.

Now, back to some of my earlier comments. When you are browsing the network and dropping by different profiles, get to know the other member. After all, reading the profile should take less than a minute. And here is the biggie....take the time to visit their website. Yep, it does take time and it may or may not be something that you are interested in, but how do you know if you don't stop by? After all, why did YOU put up the links to your website on your profile page?
Keep in mind that most webmasters have the necessary tools in their back offices and knows who dropped by their website and even when. This writer has to believe that most people appreciate members who take the time to visit their website and are more likely to actually click on the corresponding website as well.

This writer believes that when we join networks for marketing purposes, the networking part isn't really about YOU as much as it is THEM. And this writer believes that there are two kinds of networkers; those who actively participate and takes an interest in the other members, and those who move in a zombie-like state, moving from one profile page to another, requesting friends, leaving cards, sending advertisements in messages....just going from one profile to another.

This writer also believes that there are more of the former, rather than the latter......thank goodness. And as for me, I prefer my zombies in a glass with lots of ice.

Three Wise Girls Blog is ready to rocknroll!

We are the Three Wise Girls. We are Dori DeCarlo, Linda Alexander, and Debbie Barth. We are as different as peanut butter, tuna fish and key lime pie. But together, we make quite a dish. Look for our new show The Wise Girls, going live on Blog Talk Radio in October of 2009. Look for lots of changes on this blog as there is bound to be creative differences.... and we are strong women.

One thing that will be consistent on this blog is change. In order for you to stay informed, you will need to drop in often. Be prepared to learn something new, laugh, cry, become indignant, or just be plain bored. We are not responsible for your frame of mind upon entering or leaving. We take no responsibility for our comments what-so-ever, get over it, it is just who we are.

However, we are all three going through some form of menopause, whether pre, full bloom, or post; and, are subject to intense sensitivity when people drop by and fail to comment.

Remember, your relatives may not care what you have to say, but we do.
